Housewares & Tabletop Products Form A Perfect Union With Wedding Supplies
January 13th, 2011 - Posted by Leigh MorrisettI’ve often said this before, but I say it because it works. Go outside and then come back into your shop and look around. Take notice of how your store is set up. Do you have crossover items displayed next to each other? Or is it just a lot of mismatched items that you displayed in a way that makes sense only to you? As store owners, we see our stores everyday and we tend to lose sight of how to best market our items to the consumer.
Visual Merchandising Marketing
One of your biggest assets is using your shop to market your products. Marketing does not stop at advertising with print or radio media; that is merely a starting point to help get customers in your door.Once they are in the door, you must continue your marketing strategy through visual merchandising. To do this successfully, look at all items you can cross-sell. What do I mean by cross-selling – utilizing all products to combine sales and work your marketing magic.
Combining Product Categories To Create Visual Interest
If you’re not combining items, then you’re missing out on sales. Let’s take wedding supplies. Look at how we can group them with other products to make more sales. One good way to visually merchandise wedding supplies is to display them near the housewares and table top products. You may be asking why? These are the items a bride and groom may need to set up their new home.
You already have a bride and/or her bridal party looking at wedding supplies, such as cake toppers or bride and groom toasting glasses. Think about your product placement and display housewares items and table top items near your wedding supplies. You’ll be employing one of the oldest marketing tricks known……subliminal selling.
Let Visual Interest Create An Opportunity
Let’s consider a customer that has her mind set only on wedding supplies and she’s come in to order napkins for her wedding. Because you have beautiful dinner plates displayed next to the sample choices of wedding napkins, the customer is now asking you about dinner plates.
What an easy transition into signing her up f0r your convenient bridal gift registry; and to think, all she came in for was to order napkins!
As a retailer, there are so many things you must do to keep and gain customers. In today’s retail world having products to sell isn’t enough. You have to work all the marketing angles. When you combine product categories as suggested, you’re working your shop to sell. After all, sales is what it’s all about.
