Business & Technology Services

A Capital Idea: Business And Technology Services

In the fast-paced and competitive business world today, goods and services used in the day-to-day operation of a business are often overlooked but the value of these products is great. Leaders of strong businesses are constantly searching for ideas and products that will keep the company at the head of the line. Whether contracting a sales consultant to strengthen sales teams or simply interested in a new cash register, the following guide highlights several means for making your business stand out in the crowd.

Advertising: The process or medium for the open sponsoring of goods, services, or ideas. Modern advertising came into place with the invention of printing and the growing acceptance of salesmanship in early American society. Billboard, newspaper, radio, circulars, business publications, television, magazines, and recently the Internet are the popular advertising mediums in the United States.

Printing: Refers to any method used in the transferring of multiple copies of written material or images to another material. There are four main types of printing including relief, lithographic, intaglio, and screen-process.

Co Packing: Short for contract packer, a co-packer is a firm hired by another firm to manufacture and package food products for the hiring firm to sell. Strict rules are established in a contract for the co-packer to manufacture the goods in the same ways that the hiring firm would produce the goods. Other industries such as aerospace, personal care, and automotive use a similar firm called a contract manufacturer.

Drop shipping: A middle-man supply chain management technique used by retailers in which no inventory is kept in the stores. Retailers transfer the customer orders and shipment information to wholesalers who then fill and deliver the orders to the customer. The retailer profit is the difference between the retail price and the wholesale price.

Financial: The study and management of currency and other assets. Popular financial services include stock broking, investments counseling, banking, bonds and securities investing, accounting, and others.

Hardware: A general term used to refer to physical assets involved in business operations such as plastic bags, barcode scanners, scales, kiosks, point of sale terminals, credit card readers, receipt printers, currency tills, and more.

Home Based Business: Any business whose majority of managerial and/or administrative functions occur from within a personal residence. With the advance of digital technology, telecommuting professionals are able to perform the same functions as before from the home, reducing travel, mileage, and time costs while increasing the accessibility of professionals to include a now international domain.

Intaglio Printing: A process for transferring images in which images are carved or etched into a metal plate that is then filled with ink and wiped clean between presses. The paper or paper-like material absorbs the rapid-dry ink for a finished image. Currency is an example of intaglio printing.

Internet Services: Functions of a business and their development conducted via the world wide web. Popular Internet services include e-commerce, website development, and website hosting. E-Commerce refers to the buying and selling of goods online. Website development and website hosting refer to the creation and maintenance of a website.

Lithographic Printing: A process for transferring images in which greasy materials such as crayon are placed on the surface of a plate in the form of the design. Water or other materials are then spread onto the rest of the plate. When ink is applied, the greasy coating will absorb the ink while the water will not. When the plate is pressed, only the places where the ink has stayed will transfer the image.

Product Development: The process of either developing a new product from the idea stage or further developing an existing product to increase its market value. Market research firms together with research and development teams are responsible for the creation, development, and testing of new products or existing product modifications through initial introduction to the market. In this phase a company decides whether or not to adopt the product or modification.

Relief Printing: A process in which the image to be printed is above the surface of the plate or block. The opposite of intaglio printing, the area above the surface of the matrix (plate or block) transfers the ink while the surface of the matrix remains white when affixed to the receiver.

Retail Development: Products, ideas, and services that stimulate the functions of a retail business. Retail development may involve products such as training balls, ideas for a stronger workplace, or services such as training employees on the proper introduction of new theories into the workplace.

Sales Consultants: Professionals who specialize in training and developing teams or individuals toward increasing sales units. Many sales consultants speak to groups of sales teams through training seminars, books, and specific materials. Other sales consultants may take a hands-on approach by examining the daily activity of sales teams to provide an advanced analysis and suggestions.

Screen-Process Printing: A process for transferring images wherein a rubber squeegee contains the ink that is to be used in the design. A silk screen or other similar material is stretched and placed between the squeegee and the material to receive the design. Any portion of the design that is not to be transferred is blocked out on the image carrier while the rest of the material is pressed through porous areas onto the receiving material. Posters, glass, and textured surfaces are popular items for screen printing.

Software: The technology-based assets of a business used to track sales, provide financial assistance, complete sales transactions, and more. Examples of software products include kiosks, customer tracking software, accounting programs, digital mapping programs, and inventory registers.

Store Fixtures: Those hardware items in a store on which products are placed including shelves, standing racks, sign holders, and others. In general terms ‘fixture’ and ‘display’ may interchangeably be used to refer to a gathering of products arranged to draw more attention to those products.

Supplies: Like hardware, a general term to refer to physical goods used in the operations of a business. Examples of supplies may include paper bags, shopping carts, employee name badges, gift cards, tagging guns, register paper rollers, and receipt paper.
