Building an island fashion line in Hawai’i was no small victory for Robert J. Clancey after returning from WW2. Originally from Boston, Robert moved to Hawai’i after being stationed in Southern Italy in the war, ready to begin a new life. With a young and growing family, Robert began a women’s line in downtown Honolulu, distributing wholesale merchandise and representing a local Hawaiian wear manufacturer. After losing the original business, his community of fabric suppliers offered to help him start his own manufacturing line, Robert J. Clancey LTD.
Today, RJC continues to manufacture a growing apparel line in the Hawaiian islands. Robert made a commitment to the people of the islands to produce the finest aloha apparel for locals and tourists alike. Though it was no smooth sailing at the beginning, RJC is still family owned and operated since 1953.
RJC’s story is one of perseverance and loyalty, not only to a family legacy but also to the community and customers they serve. Though many brands have shifted to mass production overseas, RJC remains steadfast in manufacturing directly in Hawai’i, keeping local traditions alive and respecting Hawaiian culture.
