You have a blog on your website, and you are generating interesting and informative articles your readers should absolutely love and flock to in droves. Unfortunately, based on your tracking numbers, that’s just not the case. What could be wrong?
Spice it up!
People are considerably more likely to share your content when they read something they believe will either:
- make them look smart,
- give their friends a chuckle,
- or progress a cause in which they strongly believe.
This is because consumers use social media to BE social. All of the interactive things they do when their friends are standing in front of them, they tend to do through Facebook or Twitter. How many times have you been standing with a group of friends and someone recounted an amusing story they’d heard? Hundreds. How many times have you personally advocated a cause that you felt passionate about? More times than you can count! Your content must meet the same criteria.
You can’t write boring material and expect your readers to care enough to share it with their friends. That’s why it’s important to write about things that interest you, that fill you with passion or make you laugh. If you are passionate about your content, the chances are that your reader will be equally as passionate!
Social Media Buttons
People don’t like having to work hard when it comes to sharing articles on social media. If the visitor has to search for a way to share your article, odds are it won’t be shared. I’ve been guilty of it myself, multiple times. I find something I think is interesting and that I think my friends would also find interesting, but for whatever reason, the article did not have the right sharing button available. I could have copied the url and pasted it into whatever social media site I preferred to use at that moment, but I didn’t. Why? Because although it was a very minor hassle, I just didn’t feel like dealing with it.
That content provider lost my share, and possibly the shares of a few of the people that would have read it based on my post, because it wasn’t convenient for me, the user. Make sure that you have social media buttons available on your articles, blog posts or any other media that you create! It’s easy to do, and it can be the difference between success and failure.
