As I’ve said before in this column, Content is King! Regardless of what you’re writing about, what forum you’re writing it for or who your intended audience may be, keeping content fresh and new is as important as making it entertaining an engaging!
Don’t Make a Museum
I get it. Perhaps you’ve written something really great. Maybe it says exactly what you want to say, exactly how you want to say it. Maybe you believe that changing it up can only have a negative effect. Well, you may be right, or you may be selling yourself short, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter.
That’s right, it doesn’t matter! Leaving your page with stagnant content is going to cause you to lose business, regardless of how “perfect” your original post really was. The internet does not like museums. Search engines don’t like them. They see unchanging text as abandonment. Eventually your site will be downgraded because the search engines will assume you aren’t using it anymore!
Users don’t like museums either. If they’ve already seen your “perfect” content, it no longer serves a purpose. It’s been viewed. It’s been understood. It’s been assimilated. You now need something new to rekindle the returning user’s interest!
Don’t limit your concept of content to written copy! This extends to pics, gifs, whatever you have on your page to grab the viewer’s attention! So go forth, and curate no more!
